Bönigen

In the heart of Switzerland

Traditions are still alive in this village, and country life unfolds in harmony with nature. Are you looking for a place to call home? Bönigen offers you a corner of paradise on Lake Brienz.

The village, famous for its picturesque wooden houses, is located on the lower shore of Lake Brienz, nestled between two mountain ranges. Here you can experience the element of water in all its facets. There is no shortage of leisure activities, whether on the lake, in the mountains or in the meadows and woods surrounding Bönigen. The historic village centre is characterised by carved wooden houses dating from the 16th to 18th centuries. The houses are surprisingly well preserved and richly decorated. In the village museum, you can discover interesting aspects of Bönigen’s past. The ‘alte Pinte’ museum, dating back to 1772, offers a glimpse into a typical Bernese Oberland chalet with its rustic kitchen and rooms furnished with period and everyday objects dating from 1730 to 1920. Along Lake Brienz and the Aare, you can reach Interlaken from Bönigen. Numerous benches on the shore invite you to sit down and enjoy the tranquillity. You will find a few pebble beaches where you can take a refreshing dip or try your hand at building cairns. Simply do whatever is good for your soul. The gravel path is also suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Interlaken, with its urban charm, is not far away. Bönigen is the ideal starting point for exciting adventures and discoveries in the Bernese Oberland. Did you know that the Jungfrau region has a network of hiking trails covering over 500 kilometres? You are sure to find the right activity for you, and the Jungfraujoch ‘Top of Europe’ is not far away either.
